Schedule your Digital A Step-by-Step Guide for Patients Traveling from Near and Far

Trying a new test can be stressful especially when you’ve already been to multiple doctors, had MRIs and X-rays, and still don’t have clear answers. Many patients arrive at DMX Miami feeling a mix of hope and anxiety: “Will this finally show what’s wrong?”
This guide walks you through exactly what happens at a Digital Motion X-Ray appointment, so you can feel prepared and comfortable, whether you’re coming from Miami or Fort Lauderdale or flying in from Central or South America or the Caribbean.
Step 1: Referral and Pre-Visit Planning
Some patients are referred to us by:
- Chiropractors.
- Medical doctors or specialists.
- Attorneys in auto or injury cases.
Others contact us directly because they’ve heard about DMX and want a motion-based evaluation.
Before your appointment:
- Our team will review your history, imaging, and referral (if available).
- We’ll determine which areas to focus on cervical, thoracic, lumbar, or a combination.
- If you’re traveling from outside Miami-Dade, Broward, the Florida Keys, or out of state/internationally, we can help you plan visit times that coordinate with your trip.
Step 2: Arrival and Check-In
When you arrive at DMX Miami:
- You’ll complete any remaining paperwork and consent forms.
- We’ll confirm your symptoms, accident history, and previous imaging.
- You’ll have the chance to ask questions about the procedure, radiation safety, and what the test can and cannot show.
Our environment is set up to feel more like a specialized diagnostic clinic than a rushed hospital imaging department.
Step 3: Positioning and Safety
Digital Motion X-Ray uses controlled, low-dose fluoroscopy. To ensure safety and clarity:
- You may be asked to wear a gown or clothing without metal in the area being imaged.
- Protective shielding will be used where appropriate.
- The technologist will position you for the first set of images often standing, to reflect how your spine behaves under gravity.
We never force movements that are unsafe or beyond your current ability. The test is guided and controlled.
Step 4: Recording Your Spine in Motion
This is where DMX differs from traditional imaging. Instead of a single snapshot, we record video sequences of your spine while you perform gentle movements, such as:
- Bending forward and backward.
- Turning your head side to side.
- Tilting your head or torso.
- Specific motions that tend to trigger your symptoms.
As you move, the DMX system records how the bones of your spine:
- Slide.
- Tilt.
- Open or close joint spaces.
Our goal is to see where motion is normal and where it becomes excessive or abnormal which often corresponds to areas of ligament damage and instability.
Step 5: After the Study What Happens Next?
Once your DMX study is complete:
- The images and videos are reviewed and analyzed.
- Measurements of translation and angulation between vertebrae are taken where appropriate.
- A structured report is prepared that describes:
- Which levels show abnormal motion.
- What type of instability is present.
- How the findings may relate to your symptoms.
This report is then shared with:
- The referring chiropractor, physician, or specialist.
- You, the patient.
- Your attorney, if the study is part of a med-legal case and you authorize release.
Will I Get Treatment at DMX Miami?
DMX itself is a diagnostic test, not a treatment. We focus on:
- Providing a clear motion-based picture of what your spine is doing.
- Supporting your existing care team with objective evidence.
Your treatment plan will typically be carried out by:
- Your chiropractor.
- Your physician or pain specialist.
- Your physical therapist or rehab team.
- Regenerative providers (PRP, stem cell, prolotherapy, etc.).
Our job is to give them the map.
How Long Will the Appointment Take?
Most patients spend about:
- 30-60 minutes in the clinic, depending on the complexity of the study and which areas are being imaged.
If you’re traveling from:
- Elsewhere in Florida or the USA, or
- Central or South America (Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Mexico) or Caribbean islands.
…we can help schedule your study in a way that fits into your visit to Miami.
Why Patients Choose DMX Miami as a Destination Center
Patients come to DMX Miami because we:
- Specialize in Digital Motion X-Ray (we are not a generic imaging center).
- Understand post-accident, post-whiplash, and chronic spine cases that need motion-based evaluation.
- Provide detailed, attorney- and provider-friendly reports.
- Offer bilingual care (English and Spanish) for local and international patients.
